Ed Junior Farm, Inc.’s story began in 1940 when Edward J. Oborny Sr. started growing Midland open pollinated grain sorghum. He later expanded into certified seed wheat. His son, Edward J. Oborny Jr., took an interest in the farm and seed business and returned after graduating from Kansas State University with degrees in agronomy and animal husbandry in 1962. He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret, and they continued to grow the operation. Ed Junior Farm, Inc., named after Edward Jr. of course, was officially incorporated in 1973. The operation continued to expand and Edward Jr.’s son Tim returned with an agronomy degree from Kansas State University in 1993. In 2004, the team ensured the best seed quality possible by installing brand new, state of the art seed cleaners, entirely replacing the old system. The new equipment conditions seed to the highest possible quality. The Ed Junior Farm, Inc. team grew in 2007, when Tim married Patricia. Today, both Tim and Patricia and their 4 children, Audra, Wyatt, Cordell, and Isaac, proudly continue the operation.
Ed Junior Farm, Inc. is entirely family owned and operated.
Edward Sr., Edward Jr., and Tim have been involved in the seed industry by serving in various roles on the Kansas Crop Improvement Association and Kansas Seed Industry Association boards. In fact, all 3 Obornys served as Kansas Crop Improvement Association board presidents at some point. Additionally, each has received the Premier Seed Grower Award, the highest award given to seedsmen.
